A description of some parts of the world – explored, visited, documented, imagined. An abstract attempt at finding them again.
The title refers to geographer and civil servant of the Republic of Venice Giovanni Battista Ramusio (1485-1557). Between 1550 and 1559, together with editor Tommaso Giunti and his own son Paolo, Ramusio published a large collection of travel accounts, the Navigationi et viaggi which translates into “voyages and travels”.
The subtitle of Ramusiana – Universale della parte del mondo nuovamente ritrovata (Universal map of the newly found part of the world) – is taken from a map featured in the third volume of the Navigationi et viaggi, published in Venice in 1556.
